Scott Hassler

Foundation Relations and Corporate Philanthropy Liaison

Scott W. Hassler joined UCLA Development in 2020 as a Senior Director for Foundation Relations and Corporate Philanthropy (FRCP). He serves as the FRCP liaison to the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge as part of his portfolio. 

Prior to joining UCLA, Scott has had an almost 30 year-long dual career in philanthropy and academia. He was most recently a Foundation Relations Officer at The Wilderness Society, working on federal lands conservation, climate change and outdoor access. Previously, he served as Director of Grants and Research and Manager of Advancement Services at John F. Kennedy University, supporting programs across the institution. As an academic, Scott has taught geology at UC Berkeley and other San Francisco area institutions and researched and published on the sedimentary rock record of large asteroid impacts.   

Scott received his M.A. and Ph. D. in Geological Sciences from UC Santa Barbara, and his A.B. from Oberlin College. In his spare time, he enjoys endurance running, practicing taijiquan and outdoor photography.
